so here's my point : if there was one piece of advice i'd hand out to people i care the most about. it's got to be that timing is not just crucial, or even pivotal. it's what defines your friendships, your relationships, your life. set yourself, your best friend, your companion or anybody else, in a different period of time, be it a year back, or even a millenium forward. things would be different. sure, your personalities might be the same, the genes your inherit and all that stuff. but everything is influenced by the environment you live in, the people you are surrounded by, the places you travel, or don't travel to, the books you read and the television shows that you watch. all these change with time, and hence, so would our perspectives and therefore, our lives. if you were somewhere a second earlier, or a second later- things would be different, believe it or not. and although i recognize that there is much wisdom in the many proverbs & sayings that articulate that time is relative, and that seconds are like grains of sand that are of relative unimportance when we look at the bigger picture, the macro perspective... i'd like to remind you that should one grain of sand be absent from a sandcastle, it'd be a completely different structure. it's not just the things we experience in life. it's who we experience them with, and when. perhaps that's why they say time and tide wait for no man, why we're supposed to seize the day and all that stuff. but maybe that's also why we always think of what could be, if circumstances were any different. all these things shape who we are, who we become when we're 85 and rickety. i, for one, hope that i won't be left wondering about the "what ifs" in life, whether or not i did all i could to salvage friendships, rekindle relationships, whether or not i dug deep enough within myself to give all i could to those who mean so much to me, and whether or not i explored all the possible frontiers of the relationships (family, friends, the works.) that i have had. no matter how much people say that the macro picture is what matters most, the end result and all that stuff... the fact is that you're bound to examine almost every aspect of your life sooner or later. some aspects bring you tears, others put a goofy smile on your face. they're all shaped by time, preserved and fossilized by years of experience. time exaggerates certain things, and diminishes the value of others. but at the end of the day, i suppose you realize that no matter how hard you try, time'll always be your master, provoking certain thoughts, and allaying other fears.
the weekend was spent like this : fridayyy (oh glorious vesak day!) lunch at marmalade, shopping , & then coffee with momsies. dinner at inagiku with the 2 older boys & moms, followed by L'enfant at the picture house with ming, and the comfy seats! saturday was a good day too. lunch was nice and lazy, with mom buying back. followed by me chasing the boys to get ready so we could drive to town and get mommy her present. that took an entire afternoon cos the stupid boys got side tracked. dinner was the turqoise room with ming, with loveeeely veal & slipper lobster... & awesome awesome awesome banana crumble & tiramisu. mi3 after that was a-okay, 'cept i wish tom cruise died or something. something slightly less predictable. today was good. lunch with the whole family, inclusive of auntylou&uncleowen at poppi, and then a trip to awfully chocolate to collect the cake and then drop it off at her house. highlight of the day just has to be the long phone call all the way from AUCKLAND from CHERYL QUAH (: that completely made my day, all the nonsensical comments and all that shizzle. that excerpt on top was from the email i just sent her hehehe. i miss you cheryl quah i really can't wait for sydney, we need to top up our photo bin! <3
